NSA receives support to host the Bush Information System
The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) received storage hard drives from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Bush Control and Biomass Utilisation project to support the hosting of infrastructure required for the Bush Information System.
The BIS is a web-based GIS open-source tool for quantifying bush encroachment and woody vegetation on a national scale. The system allows users to derive maps and related products on the spatial distribution of woody biomass and encroacher bushes for any area of interest in Namibia and will support the respective government authority to plan, monitor, and make decisions on the management of woody biomass resources.
The data from the system can be used to plan for bush harvesting and value addition activities and/or determine available biomass.
