The Namibia Charcoal Association (NCA) in collaboration with the Support to De-bushing Project is currently implementing a pilot project for improved charcoal kilns in the Okahandja area. The “restort” kiln technology allows for emission offsetting, improved charcoal quality as well as higher efficiency resulting in better yields. A Specialist, Mrs Dagmar Honsbein with the financial support of the GIZ De-bushing Project has been appointed to oversee the implementation of the pilot until the end of June 2017. The Association also envisages developing charcoal standards for Namibia aligned to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to enhance the regulation of charcoal production.
