On April 02, 2019 the Biomass Utilisation by Sustainable Harvest (BUSH) Project of Namibia University of Science and Technology was launched to tackle bush encroachment through three interventions; technology tranfer, applied research and capacity development for a period of 2.5 years from April 2019 until June 2021.
The specific sub-projects include the optimising manual bush control methods, production and application of biochar, feasibility of biomass gasification for rural electrification, optimising technologies for bush feed production, feasibility of wood plastic composites, analytical laboratory capacity development and scholarships for the Directorate of Forestry.
The BUSH Project consisting of a mix of NUST professionals, industry and community players is funded by the GIZ Bush Control and Biomass Utilisation Project, a bilateral cooperation between the Namibian and German governments implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry.
